Oh. My. God. That was the most fun I’ve had in a long time.
Yesterday (7/15) I did Color Me Rad Boston with a couple of friends, and it was awesome. I am hesitant to say it was really a 5K, because, it sure didn’t feel like one at the end, but maybe that’s just a testament to how much fun we were having.
I didn’t track or time the run, so we really have no idea, but we finished in about 30 min.
The course? Winding in and out of parking lot aisles. We were laughing while we were running, because it seemed like the lines at Disneyland. You wind and wind and think “where is this going?” But it was understandable – there are very few places where you can set up a race where you are going to be able to throw colored powdered corn starch without ruining anything.
The race sold out, and the traffic was ridiculous. I got picked up at South Station by a friend who was driving us to Braintree at 6:45. We hit traffic almost immediately on 93 after we left Boston proper… and it was created by all the Color Me Rad runners, so we found solace in the fact that if we were all on the highway, then we werent going to be “late”.
We finally got there around 7:45 and walked over to the starting area. Took a “before” picture, where we were all pretty and clean, and then walked over to the starting line. We had signed up for the 8:45 heat time, but no one was really paying any attention to that, so we hopped in the 8:30 wave and took off, finished just before 9:00am.
And the race was like being a kid again. You remember those times when you would paint your hand to finger paint, and eventually you would be covered? And then you would throw paint at your friend sitting next to you, and then sooner or later the whole place is covered in colors? Yeah, it was like that (unless I was just the messy child in pre-school).
Would I do it again? Yes, in a heart beat.
Should you do it? Well, I can’t tell you yes or no… but it you aren’t a Grinch and like to have fun then I think you should look into it.
