After Tavern to Tavern 5k… Sweaty and gross, but accomplished. 30 min isn’t bad – haven’t gone for a run in awhile, so I wasn’t doing it for time… But I did negatively split! Woo hoo!
Race Recap:
It wasn’t crazy hot outside for the run, although it did get to feel quite warm when the sun was beating down on us before we started.
You could tell that the race organizers were not sure of themselves. There was no starting timing pad, so everyone’s time went off when the gun was shot, which means for people like me (who like to start at the back of the pack) there was no accurate “start to finish” time. Also, it took them forever to get us to the start line. Why? It wasn’t marked.
Come to think of it, most of the course wasn’t marked and if I hadnt started at the back, I would probably have gotten lost, instead of following the other 300 people in front of me. There were random mile markers, that according to my Nike+ app, were not accurately placed. But oh well. Also – who gives out warm water, green bananas and bagels with no PEANUT BUTTER OR CREAM CHEESE at the finish line?
Good things? It was a challenging course – with a couple hills mixed in the last half (read: hell). They also had a easy bag check and bag pick up, which is key. Also? Got a super awesome New Balance tech t, which I’m pretty stoked about.
This is only the second year of the event, so there are still some growing pains. I’ll definitely do it again next year to see if anything improves.
Best part about this race? I live around the corner from the finish line.
