So, it’s finally Friday and let me take a moment to tell you about how sore and excited I am.
- Monday: 3 miles
- Tuesday: Workplace Warrior Challenge team workout
- Wednesday: 5 miles
- Thursday: BodyPump
- Friday: 2 miles + Rhythm Ride spinning class
Whew.
So, I have been in the market for a gym during my marathon training. I have really just been running, and I need to throw in some cross training to make sure I don’t hurt myself (cough, IT Band, I’m talkin’ to you). I haven’t been a member of a gym since I joined Planet Fitness when I lived in Somerville. That gym reeked of old pizza, mildew and stale air. I could probably count the times I actually went to that gym on my fingers.
At first, I was really excited to try a CrossFit gym that just opened near my work. Unfortunately, two bad experiences with personal trainers had me leaving on the verge of tears. I went in to try my first class, and was told I :was not ready for CrossFit" and that I would need to meet with a personal trainer to assess my mobility before I could continue. Next week, I met with him, and he told me I needed to lose 25 lbs in order to run a marathon without hurting myself, and that my ankles were way to weak to consider CrossFit right now… but that i would be ready after 6 weeks of personal training. It was a classic bait and switch – and I was devastated.
Enter #WorkplaceWarriorChallenge and Healthworks.
I was super excited to see how this could play into my cross training plan, but was a little hesitant about the all women aspect of it. That all changed the moment I walked in their doors. Everyone was friendly, there were towels, it was clean, there was fun music playing.
I’m pretty sure I found my happy place.
The two classes I’ve taken so far, BodyPump and Rhythm Ride, were amazing. The teachers were enthusiastic, music was awesome and the workouts were intense and rewarding. Seriously. My arms are noodles right now, after my first BodyPump class.
Tomorrow I’ll be headed out for my long run (10-12 miles… I haven’t decided yet) and Sunday will be a much needed rest day.
Can’t wait to see what Week 2 brings!
